Are you interested in playing a Setting Native pony? Then you have come to the right place!

A Setting Native Pony (or SN, as we are calling it) is a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic canon character who is native to My Little Jamjar. Hence, their canon after season 3 is My Little Jamjar. This special character type is open to canon MLP: FiM characters only, and is designed to allow several things that otherwise would not be possible, with regard to the overall mechanics of the game:

  • First off, Setting Ponies allow for the possibility of players applying for/canon updating OU characters of MLP: FiM from Season 4 onward if they so choose, without having to worry about "messing things up" in the game's timeline, particularly major things which likely contradict each other.

  • Secondly, the initial effect is to allow for players currently in-game who were originally OU before the mechanics change to retain their characters, without "messing things up" for their CR and development, as well as to encourage the possibility of coming back with said character should they need to drop. It also encourages the possibility of players picking up other Setting Native/SN characters that haven't been played yet, without forcing them to be "OU"/contradictory towards canon, and vice versa for players picking up OU characters.

  • Third, it allows for the smoother entry of minor characters who have little to no OU background information, unlike characters such as the Mane Six or their family members. Characters who otherwise would be instantly classified as "AU" no longer have to worry about whether certain ideas or "headcanon" will cause problems in the setting. Because the setting of My Little Jamjar no longer has to worry about the contradicting of canon from now on, at least for the most part!

  • Fourth, and certainly not least, specifically in the case of Setting Native Mane Six characters (and possibly others in the future, but especially the Mane Six for now!), it allows the moderators to do something with unused ponies, without players or the mods having to worry about trying to think up about why they weren't involved in certain events or problems even when they are assumed to be "there all the time" and would otherwise be involved and influence the outcome.

Hence, we invented the "called away" or "vacation" mod mechanic for particularly important Setting Native characters, where these unused ponies leave Ponyville, apparently to do vaguely defined things that the characters don't elaborate on. It helps to further the plot and perhaps deepen the mystery when these characters aren't being played on the one hand, and on the other, should a player wish to pick up one of the Setting Native characters that are "called away" in this fashion, the apping player is thus free to explain what their character was actually doing in detail, without having to conform to any mod specific designs.

The primary requirement for a character applying for a Setting Native character, other than the character being a canon MLP:FiM character, is that the character's history must have conformity with what's happening in My Little Jamjar. Hence, potential players of Setting Native characters will want to check out The Story So Far so that they will have an idea of what their character may or may not be aware of in terms of major events.

And with that out of the way, here's the list of the current known Setting Native characters, both in play or otherwise! It will likely grow as players decide whether or not to apply for SN ponies. They are:

Characters in bold are currently played by players in the community. Characters in italics are NPCs played by the mods. Characters without any embellishments have not yet been subjected to the "called away" mechanic, but are still appable. Characters that are struck out have been "called away" for some reason but, again, are still appable. Characters that are bold and struck out are setting natives that were in play, but have been dropped, but, once more, are still appable. These natives will disappear like non-setting native ponies, in a flash of rainbows.
