Ahem. This might be silly, but I was raised on Animorphs so bear with me. Ponies in the show display many traits of actual horses - frustrated snorting, bucking, some flightiness (even in the mane cast; see: timberwolves) - so it can be assumed that they don't think just like people but in pony bodies. They have some horse stuff going on, with intelligence on top.
Would non-pony imported characters have pony instincts to deal with in their new bodies? Would they think like a pony while keeping the personality of their canon selves? Is it just left up to Rule of Funny? The world must know.
